Gela Mederos nació en 1963 en Caracas,
Venezuela . En 1988 se graduó de Licenciada en artes en la Universidad Central
de Venezuela, obteniendo mención publicación para su tesis de grado sobre la
historia del esmalte artístico en su país.
En 2002 fue su primer acercamiento al
universo de la joyería con Ivette Moulinier en Puerto la Cruz, descubriendo su atracción por
las técnicas y el dominio de los metales.
En 2005 se mudó a Buenos Aires, Argentina
donde estudió esmalte a fuego sobre metal con Leonardo Greco, joyería en al
taller de Diana Pinhasi y se recibió de diseñadora y creadora de joyas en el
Instituto de Joyería y Diseño Benvenutto Cellini de la mano de Ariel Marini,
Walter Melo y Silvana Chiavetti.

hace tiempo dejó de ser únicamente un adorno. Ha alcanzado estatus de arte contemporáneo desdibujando las fronteras y preconceptos que
alguna vez la limitaron. Con esta nueva
visión hoy debe ser estudiada y analizada. Tenemos el compromiso como creadores,
como artistas, de hacer que se reconozca nuestro oficio dentro del mundo de las
artes, estudiando, investigando, trabajando con autenticidad y divulgando lo
que hacemos con el respeto y la importancia que merece.”
Gela
